Our Diversity, Equality and Discrimination elearning modules are ready to use.

Diversity, equality and inclusion are hot topics right now. Whether it’s on TV or social media, in the workplace or down the pub, it seems like everyone is talking about cultural and religious differences, sexuality, gender issues, mental health, disability awareness, and so on.

For instance, 13-19 May 2019 was Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK. And the United Nations designated 21 May 2019 as World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, with events taking place all over the world.

Here at Ashford, it’s been very much on our minds too. For a start, we certainly work with a diverse group of clients! But more importantly, it’s a vital business issue, for us and for all the people we work with.

In this day and age, there’s no excuse for discrimination, workplace bullying, harassment or victimisation. (Discrimination is illegal under the Equality Act 2010.) So it’s vital that employers ensure that their employees understand what diversity, equality and discrimination mean, and how and why they must obey the law.

Although it can’t completely change an individual’s beliefs, diversity training can break down the ethnic, social and political barriers that often separate employees, creating a positive work environment where people are productive as a team. In addition to more productive teamwork, organisations that embrace diversity and inclusion also benefit from having a better understanding of their customers and a greater pool of potential employees to choose from when recruiting.

That’s why we have developed new Diversity, Equality and Discrimination elearning modules – to explain the difference between ‘diversity’ and ‘equality’ and encourage colleagues to think about what they can do to ensure everyone is treated fairly and equally.

There are two versions of the training – one ‘general’ module that’s appropriate for all workplaces, and one specifically written and designed for people who work in the theatre or other entertainment venues. As with all our work, the modules are written in plain English and are easy to follow. They’re ready to use – but we can always adapt the content and design specifically for your organisation if you prefer.

Do give us a call and take a look – we’re really very proud of them!
