Phishing email was an ironic twist in the tale
In a twist of irony, one of our own people was the subject of an attempted cyber attack this week – while putting the finishing touches to Ashford's cyber security elearning module.
The attack came in the form of a threatening email, which quoted a genuine password and claimed to have access to our senior editor’s PC, webcam, files, folders and browsing history.
In a new blog post, Chris Burns explains how the scammer got hold of personally identifiable information, and what to do (and not to do) if it happens to you.

The most effective way to prevent cyber attacks
Cyber security is a huge and complicated business. According to the UK government’s Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2019, one in three businesses was the victim of an attack or breach in the past 12 months.
80% of these businesses were the victims of phishing attacks. Phishing attacks usually involve emails designed to trick people into downloading malware or giving away information.
Staff training is the most effective way to prevent such attacks. We’ve developed a short module to help your people spot and deal with potential spear phishing attacks. Preventing Cyber Attacks is available to use immediately, or we can customise the content and design for your organisation.

Tips and tricks: the difference between proofreading, copy-editing and editing
A vital part of our development process is – and always has been – editing. We offer different levels of editing, from proofreading to copy-editing and editing. The lines between these levels are often blurred, which means the differences between them are not always clear.
We’ve written a breakdown of the different levels and the tasks they include.
